Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX100V and DSC-HX9V Ultra Zoom Cameras


Sony announced two new ultra-zoom Cyber-shot digital cameras in its HX-series, the DSC-HX100V and DSC-HX9V. They are the first Cyber-shot cameras to get the 16.2 Megapixel Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor with support for a brand-new Intelligent Sweep Panorama HR (High Resolution) mode. The HX100V is the first camera to include a 27mm Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonar T* lens with 30x optical zoom while the HX9V is the first to get a 24mm Sony G lens with 16x optical zoom.

The DSC-HX100V and DSC-HX9V both support Full HD 1920×1080/60p video recording and offer 3D Sweep Panorama mode or the 3D Still Image mode for capturing 3D images. They include the Dual Record mode, borrowed from Handycam camcorder line, the can shoot video, while simultaneously capturing 3-megapixel digital still pictures.

Both long zoom cameras are equipped with BIONZ image processor and offers Optical SteadyShot Active mode image stabilization, Face Detection, Smile Shutter, Soft Skin mode, in-camera retouching tools and Superior Auto Mode. HX100V and HX9V provide a DSLR-like focus speed letting you  grab the most fleeting photo moments with ease. They also support high-speed continuous shooting at 10fps and include Backlight Correction HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode that compiles the highlights, mid-tones and shadows from three separate shots to create one realistic-looking photo.

Sony’s DSC-HX100V and DSC-HX9V packs GPS/compass function that automatically geotags images and video clips. Each of them comes with a 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD display and HDMI output. The DSC-HX100V camera also features a manual control ring that can be assigned as desired to adjust focus or zoom. Coming in February, the HX100V and HX9V will be available in February for $450 and $350 respectively.
